Health Policy II
Description: This course teaches how to conduct policy analysis in the area of health care. Students will learn how to identify a problem clearly, evaluate alternative proposals and their potential impacts, and communicate effectively with policymakers. We will build on the institutional background and conceptual frameworks from the Health Systems and Health Policy I courses. Here students will focus on a particular policy issue, and will produce a detailed written analysis and in-class presentation on their topic. To provide examples, lectures will cover a range of policy challenges including cost containment, retirement-age policy, health disparities, pharmaceutical safety and innovation, and medical malpractice.
Learning Outcomes: 1. Prepare reports and presentations using the method of policy analysis in the area of health care. 2. Describe the key features of current policy problems and major issues in the U.S. health care system.
